Raise the Standard of Enrichment Centres in Malaysia with nationwide accreditation
In recent years, Malaysia has seen a significant rise in enrichment centres, driven by the growing demand for supplementary education. Many parents now view these centres as essential for enhancing their children’s learning experience. However, with the rapid expansion of this sector, there are growing concerns about the quality and consistency of the education provided.
Ensuring Consistent and High-Quality Education
Many enrichment centres in Malaysia operate with little regulation, leading to inconsistencies in teaching standards, curricula, and the qualifications of educators. Reports show that unqualified or undertrained educators can negatively affect children’s learning outcomes and overall development. With a nationwide accreditation system, every educator will be evaluated in these aspects such as:
Mental Health Awareness
Effective Communication
Situational Management
Mental Health Crisis In Students
Based on an article by The Star, former Health Minister Dr. Zaliha Mustafa highlighted the rising mental health issues among Malaysia’s youth, noting that 424,000 children are affected. The National Health and Morbidity Survey 2022 revealed that 1 in 4 teenagers suffer from depression, with 1 in 8 having suicidal thoughts. (Source: The Star)
The data highlights the concerning mental health scenarios among Malaysian youth. In 2022, 6 in 10 youth (aged 15-40) experienced mild to severe depressive symptoms, 3 in 10 suffered from moderate to severe anxiety, and 1 in 10 experienced high levels of stress. In 2020, 1 in 10 youth (aged 15-30) had thoughts of committing suicide, with suicide-related numbers increasing from 953 people in 2019 to 2,119 people in 2020, as per the Malaysian Youth Index 2020. By establishing and implementing an accreditation system, we aim to:
Ensure that every educator is certified, competent, and equipped to provide a safe, supportive, and high-quality learning environment
Raise the overall standard of enrichment centres, giving parents confidence in their choices and children a brighter future
Empower parents with transparency, allowing them to make informed decisions based on verified standards, knowing their child is receiving the best care and education possible
Now is the time to make your voice heard. Join us in calling for the Malaysian government to take immediate action in regulating enrichment education for the benefit of our future generations.
We urge you to support this initiative by signing our petition. Together, we can create a safer, more enriching education system for the next generation.
